Who we are

An international network of high-containment labs working together to advance zoonotic disease preparedness.

The Biosafety Level 4 Zoonotic Laboratory Network (BSL4ZNet) is a network of animal and public health organizations from 5 countries. It was established to respond to current and emerging high-consequence bio-threats using a One Health approach, and facilitated by strong international partnerships. The network’s mission focuses on building trusted partnerships, enhancing international coordination, promoting knowledge sharing, and expanding capacity in diagnostics, research, and training.

Learn about us

BSL4ZNet strengthens global readiness by facilitating intelligence sharing on outbreaks and emerging diseases in partner regions. Through exercises, gap analyses, and tabletop simulations, the network helps identify vulnerabilities, test response strategies, and improve coordination before emergencies occur.

The network advances high-containment science and operations through active working groups and its international conference. These forums enable members to exchange expertise, align best practices, and collaboratively address shared scientific and operational challenges.

BSL4ZNet strengthens biosecurity and biosafety through targeted training, communities of practice, and dedicated conference programming. These activities promote responsible research, risk awareness, and the safe handling, protection, and oversight of high-consequence biological materials and related information.

What we do

Enhance international outreach and preparedness on zoonotic disease

The network maintains active communication among members, organizing learning events, conducting surveys, and sharing best practices, templates, contracts, and protocols. Its steering committee and working groups operate under structured pillars that guide coordination, training, scientific excellence, and international response.
